One of the greatest hobbies of all time that can be shared between both children and adults is the art of collecting comic books. While comics were once sold all over and were simply fun reading material for kids, they have now become collectible items that are sought all over by boys, girls, men and women. Some comic books are easier to find while others are very rare with only a few copies still existing in the entire world. You may pay a few dollars for one comic book while another could cost hundreds or even thousands. If you have an interest in starting a comic book collection, simply use these tips to get started.
1. Consider what types of comics you like and start by collecting those that are in the series. You may enjoy a particular artist or writer over another. Not all comic books are alike.
2. Keep your comics in good condition by putting a plastic protector around each one.
3. Make offers on comic books based on the condition, rarity and presentation.
4. Do your research before buying a comic book. Someone may have their comic listed too high while others are available for a major bargain.

From 1956 – 1970 we experienced the Silver Age of comic books. This was a time that experienced such popularity in comic books that it carved the way for comic books for decades to come.
During the Silver Age, the artwork in comic books improved a great deal. Brighter colors and much more detail were used to make the characters stand out and fill the reader with action jumping off of every page. The stories and format were showing more emotion, action and the dialogue was more. Where it differed most from the era before was that the Silver Ages of comic books focused more on the superheroes. The villains and superheroes battled back and forth which was the focus on comics during this time. As well, the superheroes were made to be much more human.
In ’54 when the Comics Code Authority came into play, they worked to really improve comic books for the younger generation because of so much criticism they were getting. They made the comics much less violent than in the past, less sexual and less gory. This was a big change for the comic book industry.
By shaping the superheroes personality and making them have more dramatic events, they became more human with more abilities and power. This brought so much more life to the characters in comic books. People became more invested because they had a better personality and much more life to them.

The second thing you need to consider is the graphics themselves. Graphics are a large part of a comic book and as such you should take the time to look at them carefully. How are they drawn, what quality is the paper and color aspects, and are they consistent. Finding a comic book that has both good graphics that engage the reader and draw your attention and a good story that keeps your attention are the two most important things that you need to consider when you look at a comic book in order to ascertain if it is a good comic book or not.
